On the one hand, the pretense that the protagonist is "normal" and that this isn't yet another power fantasy, is seemingly, well, not much more than a pretense.
On the other hand, it's doing an okay job making that pretense work, getting out of it a kind of low-key vibe and some nuances to the protagonist's perspective. And it's nice, really.
Hoping it keeps cool and doesn't lose its charm.
