Edit: as an aside, that info about angel gear and the Weaver race help explain why the Dragon Empress was in there and the ability of a Soul tier.

Well, not that much time may have passed for them. According to relativity: (I risk over simplifying this) the faster you go the the less time effects you. They are traveling over 10s of light years to move between planetary systems and while it may be a week or a month for the travelers, years may have passed for others living on planets or moving at slower speeds. The author seems to be alluding to this time differential while ignoring the tricky bits. It would account for the children in Beiyang not aging and the emperor saying that 2 years have passed. Meh.
