Win or lose, the Dragon Slaying Empire will collapse. They can't survive without an enemy, and without an outside enemy, only themselves exist to attack.

Are there any other nations that are like this? The most popularly known one would be the Mongols, which turned into Russia. Could be fair to say the Roman Empire fits the bill too, but they were farmers at the core, so not an exact fit. Rome did need "tribute" from expanding though.

Well, you'll soon learn that the DS was destined for its crumble ever since it wasn't founded yet. The Ditu royal family has a goal embedded in their gene which is not world unification.

To serve that unsaid goal, what they needed to do most was to earn resources, and the fastest way to earn resources is to plunder and not peaceful agriculture. Wars and patricide also help the royal/imperial ruler to increase their soul soldier's capability.

And I don't think the Mongol Empire turned into Russia.

And I don't think the Mongol Empire turned into Russia.
I'm using pretty broad strokes, so did some very brief searching.
Moscow was a duchy of the Golden Horde, which was the western most fragment of the mongol empire.

The fight to break free sounds like a major disappointment though.

I do wonder if the traits I think I'm seeing are all bias or if there is something there. No way to address this in a short period of time though. Will keep pondering, and likely research more.
