I'm fairly interested in where this story will lead, it almost feels as if they're fighting against the force of entropy made manifest. I wonder whether the characters sacrificed to stop her will stay dead or if Mu Siyun will bring them back somehow

I've been waiting for far too long to see someone mistake "desert" for "dessert". If there is an issue remembering which is which, think of the "ss" in dessert as "sweet strawberries".

Thank you for the chapters and for allowing me to mark this typo off of my bucket list.

I'm not saying Shiri's life wasn't tragic. I'm saying it's not as tragic as modern day angels'. At least a lot of the shit she went through can be laid at the feet of a war where everyone was desperate. It had purpose. Even her survivor's guilt was because the man she loved loved her back. Better to have loved and lost, right?
Modern day angels, pre-Mu Siyun and even after for those not in Red Scale suffered because of the greed, selfishness, and just plain cruelty of rich assholes who'd never known hardship.

Kinda true, from what I can recall, Shiri's class had a proper kitchen and food, and it was in the Beiyang academy. I have no idea how it was before Mu Yufeng's rule of Beiyang/Red Scale though. Even though the current day angels joined because they had nothing to eat in the first place, they were fighting for the heartless top class. In Shiri's case, they were fighting for Daxia—humanity.

There's already a hint to that.

  • Heaven doesn't allow revival.
  • Mu's name is Heaven Defying.
