This is little bit unsexier than it sounds. It's more akin to "we found compounds that suggest that there once were bacterial life, since these kind of compounds were found in rock formations on Earth caused by bacteria, however, these can also occur from other causes"
Essentially: there may have been bacterial life here at some point, but we don't know for sure until it's properly analysed in a lab.

But that doesn't get clicks so "LIFE FOUND ON MARS!!!!!!!!" is the obvious article title.
