Spring is around the corner and so are the Uma Musume trying to place first at every race, but are you saving a seat to watch Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray? This focused manga is finally getting its anime adaptation after the anime series got three sessions, several OVAs and a film, so either if you enjoyed the previous seasons, other manga stories from the same series or the game, you should give it a try to Oguri Cup's story! Of course, feel free to comment the other Uma Musume titles, here I am merely showing my enthusiasm for a side story I never expected to see it adapted:

Off-topic, but is there a "protagonist" uma musume? Or does each horse have a dedicated story arc?

Every title (except anthologies) and anime season have their own main characters and there is definitely a protagonist for each one, but in the same title you'll find more than one unique story arc and at the same time you'll see the whole cast even if it's just a frame/panel or two. Here on MangaDex you have those dedicated stories to Oguri Cup and Sakura Laurel in those two manga stories, they are without room for doubt the "protagonists" of their stories and can be read as standalone titles, same with each anime title. Since it's based on real racing horses, each one has its own generation and golden era, even if they all share school and seem to never graduate. So you can start with any and expect different things from each one.

in a way, each Umamusume are protagonist once perspectives are shifted around. Oguri, Teio, Special Week and his daughter, Buena Vista are staple example.

But the likes of Win Variation, Marvelous Sunday, Meisho Doto are also protagonists once you shift that protagonist perspective as them as the focus.

golden era
Each era in JP racing has their own title tbh and the Golden Era/Generation has always been the 1998's title with Special Week, King Halo, Emocion, Seiun Sky, Offside Trap, El Condor Pasa, and Grass Wonder. :dogkek:

Oguri Cap generation was the Heisei Sankyou while in Laurel's gen was Gekiatsu Generation.

even if they all share school and seem to never graduate.
Haiseiko and Speed Symboli is now in Umamusume, Maruzensky will never be able to deny the grandma accusations 😂

For Golden Era I was referring to that, it's not just last 90s but several decades. At the end of the day, the potential for each Uma Musume comes from how much they can stuff their bellies.
