@Treyon @Talh That practically the tax system back in feudal ages 90% some percent to the government some percent to the local lords and some other bullish crap so a lot of farmers are totally poor back then. Well not sure thought maybe it mostly rent or something to be paid to the landlords.

Add: This is for farming not hunting though.

not really the reason for farmers staying poor was due to low productivity and serfdom the reason they couldnt tax that much was because of class tensions, limited administrative capacity and an inability to enforce collection at most they collected somewhere near 5 percent of gdp. by the way the greatest champion of not wanting to get taxed the Usa or at the time the 13 colonies were taxed 1% to 1.5% in comparison to main land britain of 5-7%.
