This motherfucker's gonna complete revolutionize how travel is done in this world, isn't he? Once he builds one train, he'll have to build an entire rail system at the request of the aristocracy.

Bruh Miyabi, this is gonna have so many butterfly effects let alone destruction of the environment and the easier facilitation of war logistics...
(ie. look at american manifest destiny)
(let's hope it mostly stops at transportation and goods...)

On another note, the distance is roughly 590 KM (367 Miles).
Unless the train that MC makes runs over 200 KM per hour (meaning atleast under 3 hours of travel time), it would take a long time for Liz to be able to commute between the two cities.
Let's say he gets it going at a fairly easy 80 kmh, which would be faster than any horse though still slower than most modern vehicles. That makes it into just over a seven hour trip, which is a fairly long time if you're planning on daily travel. However, this is in comparison to the 2 week long trip that it is currently. Even if the train he makes is that slow, they could easily transit from one city to another on a weekly basis or just on the weekends and with little effort on their own parts compared to most other methods of travel.

Man, you got magic on your hand, why bother with trains (that or minimum build a functioning roman style roads), build jets, or something, heck build a space shuttle.
but trains are one of the most efficient forms of transportation so long as the tracks are laid, though yeah with the logistics of maintaining a train and it's tracks let alone the industry required to manufacture and procure materials to make them roman style roads are probably more feasible (also search up steam train explosions and their images, scary stuff:huh:)

That what i also thought.

But maybe it's MC's current technical abilities that would be the limiting factor?

I mean, for a train, all you need is a track and an powerful engine which just moves forward.

For an Airship, you also need other stuff, like how to make the object float up and go down, or how to move an object without friction and at a stable balance, etc.

He can save a lot of time by routing the rails through the nether

it's a good idea on paper but... in an isekai, there's always monsters outside town so it seems really dangerous to try it if you can't put a permanent defense on both the tracks and the trains =$
I mean, imagine a monster destroying your tracks. What then ? 😅
I'm sure there are solutions for monsters.

If there are no monsters that dig tunnels then a simple solution is to have the train run underground. Well, I say that, but it'll need ventilation shafts so slimes could definitely make their way through.

I assume the train tracks will just run along currently trodden roads. In general, the human presence on these roads mean that monsters should more rarely roam there. A train may also encourage settlement, which in turn will increase security.

I think human bandits might be a far greater danger for trains, because they would recognise the usefulness of blowing up train tracks and looting a derailed train, while I doubt that monsters would even care about the presence of train tracks.

I also doubt that there is any monster that would see a moving train and think that it's a good idea to attack it. Trains are massive and have a lot of speed so they pack a lot of force. They can also be mounted with ballistas/cannons or protected with magic.

But right now, this isn't even the biggest obstacle for this project. Besides actually making a train, he'll need to obtain permission to set down tracks, maybe buy land or negotiate passage rights from the lords, and get a lot of funds to gather the material and manpower for this. He's going to have to pitch that concept to some nobles and have some sort of business plan. To be fair, he's gained access to a prince who could back such a project and make everyone reevaluate producer jobs so that part may actually go somewhat smoothly.
:thonk:wouldn't airships be easier?
Or even just a personal motor vehicle. They only have horse-drawn carriage from what we saw so if he can make something that can go much faster and for greater distances it would be very appealing. A car or truck can be bought and used by wealthy individuals whereas a train requires a lot more investment in infrastructure, personnel, and only makes sense if there is a lot of people and goods that need to be regularly moved.

Right now, his problem is that he wants two adventurers to be able to quickly move between cities about 600 Km apart and the solution that jumped to him was to build a train. It's beyond overkill, but it is certainly a project that will keep him quite occupied.

Yeah, on a weekly or monthly basis, the 7+ hours one-way trip isn't going to be an issue.

But she can't really do both Academy and Adventurer work like that easily, as some Adventurer work might require long work periods, while some Academy work might require her to stay in one place until it's over.

That is why i considered daily travel timing, as that way she would have more leeway in her schedule, as her travel timings would be needed to be much shorter.

Well, some part of the next chapter raw is out, and though i can't completely read japanese, it seems that he is planning to make underground railway system, to reduce on-land issues, like Monsters or digging through mountains. But the issue seems to be getting permission to create it, as the plan needs him to connect the Capital with that other city which could cause issues.

Like i already mentioned to someone else, create Air Travel worthy system isn't as easy or safe as creating land-based travel system.
Plus we don't really have much idea on how the magic system of this world works.
So, making a Air Travel is far much big of an hassle than Trains to be honest.

This is based on many series i have read, which did develop air travel system (either by MC or pre-existing tech) in an Isekai world.

Also, Japanese people are more biased towards Trains than towards Planes.

Well at least she somehow understood that princess were in it for herself from the begining first and foremost no matter how "kind" her intentions overall are. They want to snag Miyabi for their own usage (for the prince and other things) by separating them.

I thought that was the important part but everyone else talking about fucking trains lol

The whole concept is based on runaway thoughts. It's a world where magic exists. His goal is to allow a single person to quickly travel between 2 places and his solution is invent mass transit? Before even considering a magic-based way to accomplish that goal? This kind of thing will have untold consequences that he can not hope to control. The whole notion of local adventurer's guilds likely exists in large part due to the logistical challenges of moving forces across large distances, his little project will probably make them obsolete.

Which WN chapter is this? The manga and novel seem a bit different in timeline so I can't figure out where to start.
