It seems to be more because the other king sorta opened up an old wound with a snide comment, so it’s probably more “I refuse to have that sunuvabitch as an in-law”. Which is still petty, but at the same time I get it.

Sure, but what I wrote is the obvious consequence. He should be able to see that his decision would lead to his son's misery, one he experienced himself even. He's a freaking king, he should be above these things. Heck, make this look like an act of pure magnanimity from the outside and use it to your political advantage.

That would have been amazing, but definitely not in the style of this manga...

Worse. What if the Queen began resenting the King for his unrequited love which he obviously still held since he kept refusing the engagement. Suddenly there's a rift at the highest level of authority and plots start forming. Plots dangerous enough to see the kingdom devolve into war.
Not to mention the fact that, though she may technically be nobility, Risa's making unsolicited questions/demands of the royal family which is already a huge faux pas to the point of being impertient/overstepping her station, but if word got out, the other nobles would most certainly be taking note.

I have a hard time believing this manga did not have said tag before considering the ungodly amount of shipping going on.
But sadly im not a time traveler so i can´t check.

I dont think the main issue was about unrequited feelings, more that the Engeldo king was stupid enough to run his mouth...

Also, iirc Risa was already friends with the queen and other high nobles so it's not a drama-worthy development
