I used to think it was funny but now I realize Japan is just too far up its own ass about how GREAT their food is.

The French aren't this bad! Bread was invented as early as 8000 BC with yeasted breads coming around 500-200BC, sweets comprised of honeyed fruits and nuts were in Egypt as early as 1500BC, and even now some of the simplest and most delicious, idiot proof food you can make is simply roasted and salted vegetables and meat!

man why do I always gotta wade through a xenophobic-ass food supremacy exposition every time I want to get to a cute food-based story

let’s be clear: medieval European cuisine was typically well-seasoned with indigenous herbs and seasonings, in addition to expensive imported spices that the upper class used, which is irrelevant bc the author made a deliberate choice to make the food of a fictional fantasy setting disgusting so the MC could have an easy win

From what I've heard (and seen sold in stores), it's relatively common for Japanese people to bring instant food (soup, ramen/yakisoba, or whatever) when traveling abroad. There's sort of an aversion for some folks to eating the local food, perhaps. Not sure if this is in part a result of nationalism.

Personally, I think the main draw of going to new places is eating the food there.
Even in England I've had some occasional good tasting food.
(Cadbury makes great candy though.)
Not since they've been taken over by Americans.

I never understand how most of these Isekai protagonist never once miss anyone back home. There’s been only 1 person throughout my time reading this to ever feel like they’re actively against coming here against their will. This one just sleep through the anger.
