I, however, think that sage was a little bit stupid. His overflowing power led to his isolation among humans. He was offered a place in the pantheon of gods. Obviously among the deity, he wouldn't have been isolated because of power (since gods are godly powerful, after all), but he refused it, and lived the rest of his days in the loneliness he hated. Not very smart or admirable, unless all of the gods of that world are total scumbags and that's the reason why he didn't want to join them. However, the fact the gods invited him, a mortal, to be one of them seems to suggest they are okay. Petty gods would never try to promote a mortal. This sage is awesome, he left behind all his inheritance with the will that someone else finds it and uses it, as he knows after death he'll have no use for it.
I think it was about losing his humanity. We don't know what gods are in this world, but from his actions we can assume they don't experience the world the same way we do, like them loosing the "human condition" ie love, suffering, happiness, pain, etc.I, however, think that sage was a little bit stupid. He had already lost his humanity if he was, while still mortal, so powerful the gods considered him suitable to be their peer. The other humans saw it the same way, and thus nobody could act normally in his company anymore, and he couldn't feel welcome among humans anymore. Thus, for all intents and purposes, he wasn't a human anymore. Btw, the MC is fast approaching the same fate. Maybe his grandfather was the same, but by living in Japan and hiding every single supernatural skill, he was able to blend in. After all, you can live peacefully in Japan, doing pretty much nothing of note, especially if you have money. Yuuya as well has access to all the wealth he could wish for, with the fantasy world resources. In that fantasy world, however, it could be more challenging to pretend to be a nobody.I think it was about losing his humanity. The sage scrawled him on his fell-tome.This is the coolest way I've ever seen of 'the dead' communicating with 'the living': reading a book that writes itself as it's read.
