They use 排他的, looked on jisho and it is literally translated as exclusive, does it make sense? No, the manga has been like this sometimes, probably they are exclusive because there is not many of them? I dunno, maybe the LN has more context but it hasn't been translated.

EDICT gives the following translation:
排他的 【はいたてき】 (adj-na) exclusive; exclusionary; restrictive; clannish

So especially with the latter two translations it becomes clear that here it is meant that tend to stay among themselves. Out of the translations “restrictive“ might be a better translation here.
