Ah, so Dredd finding her by the lake was a translation mistake. Well, pretty much as expected. It appears to be too ambiguous a language.

It's almost a good thing she's gotten so hurt she'll need help from a healer since it's what will get her back to a better life, but still, 2 years of this treatment is rough.

I guess someone she could rely on and a place where she could learn magic to protect others just weren't compatible wishes. With a callous headmaster, who would use a child as bait, there's not much you can do.
