Obviously, she's going to run into trouble with the established hierarchy; she doesn't actually have the amount of power that she thinks she has, as true power is reflected by who will follow your orders; at the moment they are humoring her, as she's still being of value to them in regard to swaying the masses, but as soon as she attempts real change from a position of authority, they'll pull the rug out from under her.
At which time her life won't be worth a wooden nickel, as the only way to insure she doesn't rally rank and file believers to her cause is to kill her. That's an ugly reality, but the people she's up against are a very pragmatic bunch.
Obviously, the MC and his gal will just happen to be close enough at the time to rescue her. Otherwise, no foreshadowing concerning their future meeting.

@captain_crunch That's his play-style. The king was kind enough to give the MC new clothes, a weapon, and money when he got himself kicked out of the castle. However, it doesn't mean the MC will extend the same courtesy to his slave. That's not his play-style.

Nothing make sense! How and why would others know he have rare skills? If skills exchange is something common it would be regulated more strictly! Maybe not for the protection of random people getting coerced into selling theirs, but prominent personalities, warriors, healers, etc! Powerful organization, maybe even backed by some countries would kidnap and sell skills! You could prevent this by limiting where the transaction can be made, like a guild or a church, where witnesses could confirm the deal! It's not perfect, ofc, but at least people wouldn't be chased on the streets!
And normally every villain is just one-dimensional and everyone is ignorant! It's lazy writing since nothing is black and white! Such society do not progress since evolution is spurred by the free exchange of ideas...damn I went on another useless tirade

How could someone off the street that won a popularity contest be more competent than someone raised from birth for leadership, administration, governance, and literally bred for ruling? I guess we'll know if ever the day comes that happens.

My guess why she's with this cloth is that maybe they didn't have time, remember MC and slave girl were hiding and they left the city as soon as the door opened. And probably for the best, since he caused a nice amount of destruction and the Slave girl basically blinded a portion of the city with her OP magic.
Also MC should've seen this red flag from miles away, a good priestess, but racist church and bad underlings is not a favorable outcome. Also he should take the time to modify those skills, because Elf Girl will be kinda useless since her magic takes some time to chant.
