isn't forgery what criminals do?
Making a copy isn't a crime per se, but selling it like it is an original is.
There are also issues with trademarked designs too, which is where things get messy. I remember Apple sued another company (samsung?) for using the same curve for the corner of their phones. No idea what the result of that was.
Companies have sued over using a similar font or name, even if the products would never be confused.
In the US at least, they have to sue, or others can say they aren't trying to defend their property rights, so they are allowing counterfeit products.
