I know it's pretty late to point out but I am sure there are some wrong translations on the mushroom part by the last 2 pages.
I think he was collecting mushrooms at the start (japanese word: kinoko) but somehow it became 'bamboo' at the last 2 pages. I am not sure but maybe it was misread as 'takenoko' (bamboo shoot) and so translated simply as bamboo.
