Which I still find hilarious because soy sauce is originally Chinese, lol.

Which is the part I find almost irrationally stupid. The dude's entire side hustle is catering and confections, and has been for many years. He built up a merchant house to collect and gather ingredients for his different restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and cafeterias. Japanman can't call himself a true man of culture unless he has done his utmost to find rice and soy sauce, or their closest alternatives.

From what I remember of the wn, mc lives in fantasy Germany, and sister-in-law immigrated from like fantasy Ukraine or something. So, even knowing what region she came from, it takes his procurement squad like half a year to make the round trip with the soy sauce.

may be because of the crystal dude is holding? If I recall mc invented a crystal that could cause an energy revolution. maybe the royals or a Nobel caught wind of it and is being considered a treat.not a spoiler btw, I have no read the novel/ wn that's just my 2 cents

So you can see the magic crystal in his hand, and the Crystal Generator in the background of the Vol 9 Cover. The story has mentioned the crystals are rare and expensive to source. And any production method would be a Military resource. It's mentioned in chapter 8, that they've been developing trade routes that presumably obscure the source of the crystals.
