For the most part you're protected.
If even after all that something manages to creep in that's most likely the users own fault. (i.e downloading dubious things themselves) or unless a legit website gets hacked.
There's a reason the comick creator warned users against going to comick copycat sites but people are still logging in to those sites.
It's about complacency and ignorance. In most cases you don't even know your compromised until weeks or months later when the anti-virus gets an update, or when your system starts chugging. So it's just better to avoid the sites entirely, or thoroughly check your system regularly to maintain your security.
While true no site is truely safe, you are less likely to encounter one by sticking to the larger, better maintained sites. Not only as the smaller satellite translation site more likely to use malware to augment their cash flow, but also be infected by it because of ignorance or complacency.
