Dude took decades to find a few planks, a branch, a bale of hay, and a blanket. Life is grim in the demon relam.
He probably bought those wood. Given his job and size he couldn't do lumberjack work.

This must be the spider web logic.

So is there a rule or a species trait where he couldn’t buy materials and had to collect everything himself to build his house ?

I doubt he bought them. Like imagine a high paying job for a week and just to buy materials with what's left after some meals. He's a short lived creature, so a week is like a long time for him too. It's like you earned a years worth of salary just to buy some planks of wood?

In your POV that would be like buying premium solid wood for your house because of how expensive it is to cost you years of your salary.

If my life is that short I'm gonna booze it too. However human life today is centenary so...

I need to work even if I'm 65 to 77, like old man. Government dream of not providing social security here. You know why government exists? Social Security. Without security, then the people in their billions will crumble that government and will hang those people on top.

Working even at 80 was normal in the Golden ages. Thus the fire of forges never goes out. Calling them Dark Ages was the envy of the of the modern era elitists where they can't even trust their own kids.
