If we take Nobunaga no Chef at its word, Chef (or the equivalent word) seems to have some roots in China as the Counselor to the Emperor or something

According to several sources the etymology of the words "chef" comes from "chief" (head, leader) in old French... but that only reaches the 14th century and the relationship to the equivalent Latin word "caput" doesn't seem very clear to me, so there might some connection there.

But, honestly, I doubt it. Because, at that time, people didn't have the means to share that kind of knowledge (even the name of spices changed drastically through the Silk Road).

“Chef” literally means “chief/head” in current French. Chef De Cuisine, literally means chief/head of the kitchen/cuisine, but translated to Head Chef in English.

It is known that Escoffier was inspired by the military (he was an army chef) to create the Brigade de Cuisine (kitchen brigade). That’s the system a lot of restaurants use, and why the term “chef” is widely used to mean a cook.
