have to have like six Sengoku era wikipedia tabs open to understand wtf they’re talking about historically

  • 1582: Oda Nobunaga is killed by Akechi Mitsuhide (the dude MC is pretending to be), failing to unite Japan as a new shogun

(In this manga it’s because Nobunaga was possessed by Yuuman, and then Yuuman moves on to possessing Kuroda Kanbei, Toyotomi’s chief strategist)

  • 1582: Toyotomi Hideyoshi (the chubby guy whose castle MC infiltrated 6 chps ago) kills Akechi Mitsuhide in revenge

  • 1583: Hideyoshi take advantage of the succession dispute in the Oda clan and consolidates his power over Nobunaga’s faction and territories but Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was Nobunaga’s second most powerful leader, refuses to submit to Hideyoshi as a vassal

  • 1584: Hideyoshi and Ieyasu fight the inconclusive Battle of Komaki and Nagakute

  • 1585: Ishikawa Kazamasu (the old guy in this chapter), who had been Ieyasu’s vassal since childhood, defects from Ieyasu to Hideyoshi’s side believing Ieyasu’s resistance to be futile

  • 1586: the massive 7.9 magnitude Tonin Earthquake hits central Japan (presumably the earthquake in this chapter)

  • 1586: Because of the defection and the earthquake Tokugawa Ieyasu is forced to submit to Hideyoshi as a vassal, allowing to Hideyoshi to unite Japan

  • 1598: Hideyoshi dies after uniting Japan, and with his heir only 5 years old, Tokugawa Ieyasu is able to defeat the pro-Hideyoshi faction and become the new shogun

Is anyone can remind me who are Kasuga mentioned by Saitou?

Edit: Actually nevermind, I'm guessing she's from nightmare arc, probably not important character anyway

Are we almost done with this terrible arc?
It's not exactly terrible, but the fundamental issue is that, to make an analogy for Americans, it's like reading a story set during the Revolutionary War but you have no idea who George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, or Benjamin Franklin are.

The quality of writing for the series has never been particularly good, mind.

Even if it was my own history, I'd be particularly annoyed if Harry Potter suddenly took a break from fighting Voldemort to go do some War of the Roses cosplay.
