I find it extremely hard to feel any sympathy toward Alice. It would be one thing if she was always locked away, but she's actually going around the country, assassinating people. Yet she always returns to the mad prince who keeps beating her. She could have escaped a hundred times, especially considering her supernatural powers, but she never does. She's seemingly not stupid, she's roaming free when the prince sends her to murder people, and t thus she can look after herself during those missions, so it's extremely difficult to see what binds her to the prince. It's not even one of those "I saved you once years ago, so you will forever serve me, no matter what I do to you or make you do" cases. If there's some psychology behind it, the author certainly isn't explaining it all too well.

@Lopina13 Thanks for the TL. For future uploads, please be aware that normal users cannot make threads at the moment, you have to do them yourself as the uploader if you want people to be able to comment.
Wow... I was wondering why I couldn't comment anything on some of the manga I was reading. I thought it was some late April Fools shenanigans or something... That really bites...

Regarding the chapter:

So now we got a general joining the fray as Aldo's ally, and this guy has two divine blessings. I'm actually curious why Merlin wants to get Almus on her side if she has this guy. At least if I'm remembering things correctly, her whole scheme involves having Aldo's kingdom invade Almus', then having the neighboring kingdoms join in to attack Almus on all sides, just so she can have her land swoop in to save Almus kingdom at the last minute and make his kingdom a vassal state while also having Almus work with her. However, Aldo had threw a wrench in her plans by killing the previous king and plunging his whole kingdom in a civil war.

As for Aldo and Alice... There's not much to say besides Alice not killing him and hinging his demise on a self-destruct seems counterproductive when she'll just come in and save him. She's simply enabling him, honestly. And sure, she's been trained and conditioned to accept his outbursts and abuse... But she loathes him and doesn't seem to hold any affection towards him, and she has enough self-awareness to know that he's not worth it.

If there's some psychology behind it, the author certainly isn't explaining it all too well.

I'd be satisfied if we at least see various flashback panels of her (while growing up) always trying to assassinate Aldo, only to stop at every time. Could even have some where she dreams of killing him only for his corpse to rise back up and abuse her again.

I'm sad to say this but you kinda deserve what you tolerate, girl.
With that strength of yours, you could have been only a knife stab or a neck snap away from freedom.

It's in the last few chapters, and that thing with the kind old lady in this one was probably staged by the prince too, all designed to get her to just keep playing her part, keep getting abused, because someday it will all be okay, but if you don't, other people will suffer.

It's what you see with battered wives, that don't do anything so long as the kids don't get abused, like Kingpin's mom taking the abuse, but the kid kills his dad and she just switches over to hiding the body for him. The fear gets ingrained.

Are there any other people in her life? Maybe I have forgotten some minor characters. That could potentially explain it, if they exist. Though that being said, she murders any targets he tells her to kill or who get in her way, so how much exactly would she care at this point, anymore? Between being freed from the constant abuse and abandoning people who aren't even her direct family, would a hard-boiled assassin care about the latter? She must have killed a lot more people than she could consider friends or anything of that sort. It just doesn't seem to work psychologically if you ask me.

It's not about being hardboiled, everything she does is like with the joke about how cubicles convince you there are four walls locking you in, the gun to her head, or the heads of any nice people she could possibly find, are all in her head at this point.

...TL needs work. Significant. Just on consistency with spelling, for instance; it's been Rosice since the first scanlation group, iirc...
