That's some arm strength the mc got there the way he got Tetra off the horse.

On the topic of invasion, I don't think having 100 people vs having 70 makes that much of a difference.

@shouldsleep MC's leader skill increases his power the more followers he has.

Also, I don't imagine sizable troops to be deployed to capture some villagers.

@shouldsleep Though they only have like 6 adults right now. Having about 30 would make some difference, plus having more people would increase Almus' power.

@AkiTooru @Yanagi Oh, I completely forgot that he has a skill. My thoughts were in the line that the king is sending them to the Griffon's forest (which sounds basically like suicide) and for something like that, adding a few dozen people for intimidation is kinda weak, particularly since the king would assume that they are simple farmers.

Based on what the villagers said and the fact that he purged off the voodoo witches: the king sounds like a guy who doesn't believe in superstitions or anything supernatural/religious. So he's probably going to get his ass handed to him by the village and the Griffin, the Griffin especially since not a chapter earlier the Griffin said that he might help the villagers when they hit a spot of bother.

I don't know the reasons behind it, but if he taxes them that heavily, so they abandon their children and in the end their whole village, and are sought after to be killed afterwards, there better is a pretty solid reason behind the taxing and kill commandos. If there isn't MC should just invent the mini-crossbow and one dart should do the job. The following struggle for power should give the village air to breath.

This is an old discussion now, but I want to point out that there's been plenty of dumb tyrannical kings and governments. Look at what's going on with Venezuela right now.

In terms of good storytelling, I guess it is still a valid point. It's reasonable to still want a more fleshed out reasoning than just a king demanding money.

Now that I think about it - being that he now has 100 people under his rule (just gonna ignore the fact that they may not be fully reliant on him) he probably has "the strength of a hundred men"

I want our MC to just execute this king like he did the bald guy that first time. But that's if that king himself dares to show his face in front of the MC, or the other king.

@TUSF I understand the idea of making "an example" out of someone and I also understand that if you murder an entire village, then you will be left with no one to take care of that land and lose way more money.

If he really wanted to make an example out of them then maybe he should have only killed a few so that the rest live to tell the tale and never forget the punishment for trying to run away.

Even then, since the problem is that they can't pay the king's stupid taxes, killing them won't solve anything. If people know they can't pay the taxes and they can't escape either, then it's more likely they will feel cornered and do something desperate since their options are pretty much dying of hunger due to being poor or being killed.

So congratulations, King Fuckup, due to your lack of understanding how to rule your own kingdom, you just forced your own people to start a rebellion or to help a foreign power invade your lands with the hope that its rule will be less tyrannical.
That'd be just broadcasting to other villagers that there's a non-zero chance of betraying the kingdom, getting caught, and being let go unscathe. That's the most terrible way to go about it. All of the people in the territory would just attempt to escape, since chances are, they'll live whether they succeed or not.
