This whole thing makes no sense, the village pays taxes to king whats-his-name which means they are under his rule. All they needed to do was send a runner to the city and tell them there is a large force from the neighboring kingdom coming into the forest and they need aid. The king would then send some soldiers since the village after all has provided him several useful things and is educating his daughter he would protect them.
@MistLynx What you say is true and everything but also i believe the mc is trying to build a town to where his people aren't always dependant on the king.
@anitvenomz how is going to the king whose job it is to protect the people that pay him taxes specifically so he can keep an army to protect them suddenly going to change their independence? Does the MC expect them to raise an army themselves to protect them from foreign invaders every time someone comes to their doorstep? This is literally the situation that villages pay taxes to the king and lords for, so they can come smack someone upside they head with pointy sticks so the villagers can continue living, breeding, and farming in peace.
Why is the king even wasting his time chasing some deserters? Doesn't he have better things to take care of? What if an enemy nation tries to assassinate him while he is distracted with this relatively minor problem?
@jmikeg That is an option and could be what happens, but I would imagine he wouldn't want to call in that favor so hastily. I can imagine the griffin would want to come at every little thing. Best case would to be save it in case something *huge* is about to happen which why this might be a bit of a situation, I'm not so sure that it's quite enough yet to call in the Griffin.
@MistLynx
The Main Problem is they are not actually citizens of Rosice yet furthermore I checked back in chapter 9 it was stated they are exempted from taxes for 5 years before they actually pay any kind land or citizens tax because they are a village barely established in an unexplored land, on top of that they are up against Ferme a man who instigated the rebellion that lead to death of Tetra's whole family and who usurped them as ruler the kingdom the Rosice Kingdom gets involved it could snowball into a war but if the MC and the villagers deal with it they get clout that can be used to make them seem more desirable and speed up the whole they are citizens thing.
@Acolytus
He is a crazy SOB, of course, he doubts anyone would try and go after his life directly also this isn't a distraction to him this is if I had to guess this is entertainment.
Like always, nobles are scum. I'm waiting for more MCs that straight up murder nobles on sight (like that revenge MC I forgot the name).
Hopefully from the forest a resistance movement will start and bring down all these cowards. Hopefully he won't go easy on them and kill all of them.
@ironclad
In the WN, they use the villager’s clothes and skeletons as “proof”. Said remains coming from the would-be heroes coming to slay the griffon over the ages, or just animals. Can’t recall.
I kinda like the ring idea. The skeleton one seemed less believable.
