if google is to be believed the people in the area were thracian tribes, possibly colonized by the ancient greeks and Byzantion built, depending on the time. As some kingdoms in the story can make iron tool, it's prob around that time when civilizations were shifting into the iron age, so Claris is very likely the equivalent of Byzantion.
