As a WN reader and one of its biggest fan
Yeeaaaaahhh…
it’s a big filter for the average ani/manga fan
Which is shame since my favourite (standalone)arc is right behind it too
Spoil me please? I'm so tired of this story and some of these characters so far and at the glacial pace the manga chapters come out... at this point I've reread 3 or 4 times but once again I forgot what the hell Maria's problem is or even what the original goal was. Something about kanami's sister, am I crazy?
And like... can we get some characters that don't have severe mental and emotional hangups please? Even for a tragedy or whatever it's kinda getting on my nerves.

Starting from the bottom, there's a joke within the community that everyone within the story is a yandere, so you have you answer there.
Ultimately, Ibusou is a story about growth not only for Kanami's but for everyone else too, it's about the mistakes they make/made and how they face them, they all eventually resolve these hangups and become "normal" but we're also at Arc 2/10, so that's not gonna happen for a while.

Yep, it's to go to the deepest part of the labyrinth, get the wish there so he can reunite with his sister.
Maria's problem isn't spelled out until near the end of this Arc(so I'll keep it that way), but it puts her and Kanami's entire relationship into question.

Normally I would urge you read the LN, since it's much further into the story but seeing you, Kampf and a couple others voicing their displeasure about the flow of the story, I'll honor that request, so...
After Kanami as some small talk with Maria,
he goes and recruits an ally and proceds to do a 2-man raid against the super cathedral
A couple chapters later, he arrives at where a bunch of VIPs and Lastiara currently are, he then rolls a ton of charisma checks, convices half the super knights to defect, has everyone else agree he was justified, bags two girls(Lastiara and Dia) and then dips
He goes back home, gets betrayed and is then forced to solo the 10th Trial, after some heart-to-heart it's a happy ending!!
clap clap clap
"Wow congrats for beating the 10th Trial but you know what comes after one? Two!! Let's start the 20th Trial"
Get ambushed, get kidnapped, get mental breakdown, get...suicide?
"Oh oh" says the kidnapper, before drugging him with magic
And so, the arc ends
While I consider Ibusou to be within the top 5 of Isekai, it's also a story that's hard to recommend especially in the current landscape, if my spoilering (somehow)conviced you to keep reading the story, I'd suggest starting from the 1st volume of the LN since Kanami's internal monologe are pretty important+Lastiara isn't as hyper as in the manga so she should be more bearable.
