So was her disgusted face because he noticed she was thinking the same thing? Some of her faces throw me off.

The village chief looks like a zombie. I couldn't help but keep thinking this is one of those illusion village things, where all denizens are undead (maybe save a necromancer or demon running the scheme) and any visitors are put under illusion magic to make everything look normal. Or maybe one of the cannibal villages that initially treat visitors well, but feed them sedatives to be able to cook them later.

However, it's apparently a village along the road between two bigger towns, so it seems unlikely there could be anything majorly wrong, unless it all happened very recently.
