The proposal? He did try to suggest it was a misunderstanding, but the girl already made up her mind, seeing how he did it properly by accident, and the circumstances were what they were. Since the MC is penniless, without any backing whatsoever, with no home or work, with nothing more or less, it'd be a whole lot easier for him to have something to rely on. The village (that looks like a town) was 5km away. It's actually quite possible he wouldn't have found it on his own. It would have been easy for him to walk in the wrong direction, randomly, and not encounter any civilisation for a long time. So, he didn't want to insult and anger his only guide to civilisation. I reckon that remains his reason for not making things clear: he's afraid telling her and her family now that it was all a stupid misunderstanding would end up making things worse for him.

In fact his only, quite understandable, misgiving about the situation is that Lizatia is so bloody young. If she was 10 years older, or even just 6 years, I bet he wouldn't even want to cancel the deal. We don't know much about him, but it does seem like he would have wanted to get married, but like a typical Japanese salaryman, he was already married to his black company job. A black company doesn't entertain competition.

Amongst all of the slop that you'd generally see within the Isekai Genre, this one in general feels like a breadth of fresh air. The MC is middle-aged, brought a set of items and necessities that you wouldn't find common for a man of his status to bring around and that while it isnt uncommon for a man of his status to previously work at a black company, its very believable. Also, while he found the young woman attractive, he neither looked upon her with lustful eyes nor acted lecherously towards her in a way that it would be unfit for their age gap; and upon finding that their age was 20 years apart, he immediately backtracked and made an effort to first disclose her of it in an attempt to have her rescind her decision to accept his accidental proposal. It was also very refreshing that the young woman's parents was very accommodating of him after finding about his situation, they didn't act upon the distasteful cliché of wanting to execute the man who proposed to their daughter; it was also pretty cool of the father to create his own imagination of his situation, a young nobleman who ventured out into the woods and proposed to another woman to try to get out of his parent's attempt to arrange a marriage for him.

weird to me when they try to go "yeah that pose is actually a proposal here" but then immediately go "oh but honorifics are the same as in japan." feels like there should be more cultural differences than just a proposal pose and the isekai staples of "15yo = adult, last name = noble"
