I saw the Japanese style hatchet shown on page 20 of chapter 5 in a woodworking catalog. It's interesting that it has a solid "nose" at the end to prevent the blade from hitting the ground or whatever is supporting the wood being split. It will stop the hatchet a centimeter or so above instead, preventing damage to the blade.
