here i thought he turned the lance hollow to turn it into some kinda rifle, but instead it's used to catapult it? guess they didn't want another series where the protag starts using guns. xd

Guy has existed on this world for a few weeks, has only lead a party of 3 people and now he feels like he can give suggestions to far more experienced adventurers.

That town hasn't got really anything but scrubs. There's a single rank 7 party, and they weren't really super impressive. The town basically relies on the national knights to deal with the annual goblin invasion. I suppose we can deduce in the surroundings of that town, there's nothing that would make it worth for stronger adventurers to remain there. Seeing how the town hasn't even bothered to build wooden walls, generally speaking things must always go their way, even without a single powerhouse residing there.

So, yes, I'd say it was just fine for the MC to voice his opinions. He has to be one of the strongest people around anyway. Since the guild ranking isn't only about strength but contributions, experience, clearing exams, and reliability, he just can't be rank 8 yet. It's a small town, so the locals won't look down on him, despite his rank. He's not young, either, giving his words some extra weight.

That's the thing, the author is making the MC smarter/better by virtue of making everyone else dumber/worse. The town is next to a forest where monsters exist, there should be walls regardless if there even is an invasion every year. There should be strong adventurers since strong monster like the giant slime and those black wolves exist.

I hate the white savior trope of someone that knew nothing a few days ago is now the best at everything and is going to teach everyone how to do the things they have been doing for decades better. Realistically speaking, he, a salaryman with no combat and combat leading experience until a few weeks ago, should have absolutely nothing to say about the defense of a town that they don't already know, much less to the people that have defended it for years, but because the aforementioned trope of the author making everyone else dumber now he is the only one with a brilliant plan that only he could come up with.

Yes and? That seems to be how most self insert isekais go. Also if you haven't noticed, the gods have been rather frequently pumping information into his head. Combine that with an Information gathering skill, an AI guide, and a skill that steals skill information from things he kills, makes for a rather capable individual.

And it wasnt like he was a complete hack before transmigrating. As a kids he learned to hunt with grandpa, played video games and read manga, and was a semi-successful manager in an accounting firm.

So while I would far from call him a military veteran, he has decades of experience leading people and a smattering of other useful knowledge in a number different fields.

I was going to make a serious reply but then you went and said that knowing how to hunt small game, playing video games, reading manga and being a middle manager, adequately prepared him to lead people in battle. Yeah, I am just going to have to disagree.

No... no it doesn't.
But I did notice you left out the ability stealing skill, the information gathering skill, the AI Guide, and the gods pumping his head full of extra knowledge. Which is what i led with. So I will also agree to disregard your comments.

You are trying to force retrocausality here. Like I said, the fact there are no walls, not even cheap wooden walls despite plenty of wood available, simply and unquestionably means there's no need for the walls. The monsters in the forest don't wander into the town. The story keeps calling it a village, I don't know why, since it's a spendid town with paved streets, three-story buildings, many of them stone or bricks. The church was quite magnificent. So, they definitely could have built wooden walls a long time ago if they were needed.

Similarly, those people simply don't have much experience of larger battles. They are so uncommon and when they happen, it's the knights handling it. That's just how it is. "They live next to a forest full of monsters, they should know" is a good argument, per se, but now we know it hasn't given them any experience since the knights handle it every year. So, when the knights aren't there, it becomes more of an issue of attitude, rather than experience. The MC happens to have such an attitude, perhaps from his years in the business world back in Japan.

Other than that, the dire wolves are a new existence, at least anywhere nearby that town, so the people wouldn't have been prepared for them. The giant slime is a rare aberration, but it doesn't move around much, so it wouldn't travel to the town. Someone else said before that the gods are changing the world after consuming entertainment from Earth, so perhaps things will change. Perhaps the MC will have the town build walls.

going by the covers i thought new guy was Liz brothers coming back and ending up in a relationship with Fia, since this one doesn't seem it will go in a 'harem' route.

Did the MC reported his findings in this chapter to the guild? That could be vital information on what kind commander they are dealing with.
