I appreciate the attempt to explain how the authorities work in this world, but I don't think it really worked to meaningfully explain anything. Like MC's ability is called Ripper but why would that be conceived as a 'possession' type when the primary function of Ripper is simply cutting things - something that I'd easily categorize as a 'phenomenon' type on description? Like even the whole "stealing authority" thing is just cutting off the target's access to their own authority. Hell, I'd put something like Wisdom in the 'possession' category since it would naturally need to be somebody's library of knowledge being accessed. It all seems really arbitrary, especially when this is all just to powerscale abilities that are already supposed to be the special-grade - the type that like maybe 30 people in the entire world have.
Plus the battleship metaphor doesn't really work in respects to the girlfriend's ability to use Wisdom better than the original lady - like if original Wisdom was a gigantic cannon that can't be used solo, then this detuned Wisdom would still be a really large cannon that can't be used solo, wouldn't it? If it was detuned to the point of being something like a 'handgun' that could be used solo, then it doesn't at all seem reflected in how she's able to use the ability since she's able to do even more than the original lady could, without any reduced efficiency or effect.
The problem is the thing to understand the difference between phenomenon type and possession type is lost in translation:
In the raw, every authority are written in kanji and then pronounce in his English meaning through katakana.
For example The translation of the kanjis of Ripper is "The person who slash/rip (with a sword)"
All the possession type Authorities are written with the kanji "者" at the end of them that generally means "person" in those context.
Phenomenon type Authority is only the concept while Possessor type Authority seems to include the god associated with the concept (who will then possess you to help you using it).
The stealing of authorities slashed is still busted though...
(The only way I can make sense of it is when you ripped something, it generally fell on your feet)
In the battleship metaphor from what I understood
- big battleship= God
- tiny little boat = human
- Phenomenon type Authority = Big weapons scale to be fixed in a big battleship
- Possessor type Authority = Half-broken battleship still floating but can't move anymore and with functioning weapon.
- Pseudo authority (the one glasses girl use) = the same weapon but scale down (detuned) to be be put on a little tiny ship and use effectively.
So
- Human with Possessor authority: the little boat is linked to wrenched big battleship and makes them move while in combat the battle ship do his things
- Human with phenomenon authority: the little boat have a big enormous cannon on it but can only fire a tiny bit of his true to avoid self-destruction.
- Human with pseudo authority: the little boat have a cannon scale down to his side so it fire at the same power than the one above with far less burden on fuel (Exp consumption).
IIf your wife that you love so much (that you her a invisible magic gun with a infinite magasine you has already filled up with 10 000 bullets but still load up more whenever you can that automatically fire anything who try to threaten her and she can also use whenever she wants) is enslaved to your boss through a magic contract, but then you learn that you can destroy Absolutely ANYTHING with your gun, what will be the very first thing you will shoot down as the good husband that you are ?
