After previously trying the "I can't speak English" card he really pulled the "I don't know how to use Western style swords" card. Seriously? 
I suppose the statement on the "holy sword" and "holy axe" being just ordinary weapons only apply when it's not used to fight something with miasma. The training golem has miasma, so in order to proc the "deal X bonus damage to monster of type Y" property these weapons have, he needed to jump through a couple of mental hoops involving thinking about his new waifu.
