For one thing, what kind of soldier attacks a child simply bc they got startled and were trying to soothe an animal? Unless you like have absolutely no morals, intelligence or organisation surely securing the area and letting the people who know and care for the animals handle them would be wise instead of basically raiding the entire area when the people rather openly weren't fighting back.

The people worried about mc becoming a "wimp" or "edgelord" because he killed someone are completely ignoring the psychological damage that normal people feel after taking a human life. Soldiers are trained to overcome this and even they have mental breakdowns. Hes never taken a life in two lifetimes, him being shaken up is entirely realistic, even if it was in self defense.


Thar being said, being worried about him caving to the nobles demands is absolutely something to be concerned about.
