To be fair, he's pretty damn scary in close range too. Hoe mode on the AFT instantly chops off bits of anything it hits and turns them into fertilizer. As for defenses, I don't think he's ever actually been successfully attacked, at least so far in the manga, though the flash forward to his kids's war arc do seem to imply he was either killed, or died of old age and they just look perpetually young cause of their mothers.

Hard to say, the flashforward was small.
And yes, the AFT can instant kill anything it touches, but that is not worth much against trained fighters, MC have no real training and is costantly surprised in tournaments but the fighters moves, so he can fight beasts with low intellect that attack in a direct way, but is different for experienced fighters, if his first attack fails and doesn't erase the oopnent head or a limb they will realize the AFT power and change tactic.

There was a chapter where we see some unknown faces talking about stuff and bringing up characters names, it was a flashforward with MC kids.
But I don't know the chapter name, it was sudden and in the middle of the story, I think it got translated in the last year.
