Weren't there metalworkers among the elves (with no explanation whatsoever where the ore and the coal come from, given that even wood coal requires infrastructure to produce)? Why is MC acting so inspired about the beastman pans and cutlery?

Higher quality I'd imagine. The beastman village is around 500 years old while the elves learned smithing during the 200 years since their village was destroyed.

2 year late, but to be fair i wouldn't expect it too with some fact that come later.

Spoiler: it not just a simple good

but beastman is like one of the best smith in continent, even some dwarf come to learn from them.
