That might be a bit more fitting b/c of the main chara's bear theme as opposed to a random person just drawing a winnie the pooh sketch just because honey/a bear person was brought up

There is a surprising ammount of translation going on in both directions. Just look at the kerfuffle with WebNovel and NU a few years back as an example. But you're likely correct that whole genres are being filtered out to be more compatible with their ideals.

Yeah other than criticizing the gov or maybe something offensive/racist towards other countries a lot of ppl are fine separating the fantasies since i think i saw one Chinese webtoon where the main chara basically 'stole' other ppl's powers by killing them/being a sociopathic serial killer so i guess there's not too many censors then again online webtoons might be diff than trying to go to a local publisher and getting chinese teens/readers

Oh they are not worried about ultra violent scenes or sexual content, as long as it conforms to their political ideals. There are some truely atrocious manhua out there. Especially some of the cultivation xainxia fics where they slaughter 7 generations of their enemies family and rape all the jade white beauties, all while extolling the virtues of the Chinese government.

It was a pretty Grim read and ultimately what killed any intrest in Manhua and xainxia based stories.

Most countries corporations want that Chinese approval due to the high pop count, which they see as high potential consumer count and large potential money, even if they have to go after their own people to stay on Chinas 'good' side.
So weather they censor Whinnie the Pooh or not I don't know but many corporations will gladly fire their people and bend over begging for more if it means a small chance at that market.
