Isekai worlds aren't always going to have the same names for things as we do.

if he didn't have to learn the language, then doesn't that mean he has an auto-translate type gift, so wouldn't it convert the name to the proper earth name?

A burger is a sandwich with a patty. Hamburger steak is like that minus the buns. It is more related to the Salisbury steak.

You realize a burger minus the buns is just the burger patty, right?

If they were making a salisbury steak equivalent (like hamburg steak) they'd be cooking it with veggies, potatoes, and some kind of sauce.

Instead they only cooked the ground meat patties. In other words, the burger patties.

Edit: Disagree all you want, I'm right. These burger patties have none of the ingredients needed for Hamburg Steak.

It would not be a problem, if they were different vegetables with different properties, instead we got not-pork with not-onions seasoned with not-soy sauce: if they are onions in everything but the name, MC (and we as well) should just get the name translated by whatever mcGuffin allows him to understand the locals...

That doesn't make sense in universe. The other characters would have no idea what he's talking about and look at him like "why are you calling a poitan that? That's not what it's called", or something along those lines.

If you're ever in a situation like that of teaching something requiring hands-on practice to a group of people, you want to put the students on the outside of the U looking towards the inside and each others. This way you can stand inside the U and see what everyone's doing. It also makes it easier to demonstrate something to many people. This chapter's drama was completely dependent on the MC not understanding something we probably all saw for the first time in elementary school.

The struggle of wanting to spend more time with the gifted kid but the rest of the class is waiting is real though…

Exactly. Which is why media for present-time human consumption is rendered in present-time human languages. Yes, they could be speaking Aramaic, Klingon, or Scouse, but "onion" is till going to be the target-audience term for a thing that largely looks, grows, tastes, and is used like some onion we know. Now, if that onion grows in the crotch region of a klipklop, tastes like strawberry, comes in the shape of a starfish, and is liquid inside so that you harvest it like squeezing a pimple, then you can start making up names. Until then: onion. Everything else is just rename-wank for rename-wank's sake.
