They let him go? Why he killed so many civilians by throwing them into the colosseum. Also how is he even spinning it as a how dare you break my golem, he forced them to fight it and offered a reward for if they won. Even in a noble ruled society that wouldn't fly. He publicly ordered everyone to try to break it. Both the public and nobles know it wasn't the MC going against a nobles commands. In treating him as a criminal for doing as told, he is publicly admitting that it was always a public execution. That he is just ordering people to die for his amusement. And that even if you do as he tells you he will not reward you. How on earth did he have guards, they have no reason to follow him, even if he pays them, he is killing their friends and family. He should have been killed long ago as the entire town should have been trying to survive. Their options are to just be randomly killed or to try and fight him, threats like killing a noble is punishable by death is worthless if he is just killing randomly. And that is just that town, that the king and other noble are also so brain dead they just want to go after the civilians in this scenario and side with the noble, they have no reason whatsoever to side with him. There is no money to be gained, no prestige, nothing. The one who hurt their honor is the noble, just execute him, that would show their power and affirm them as just. After doing that they could use that they did that to send a new noble to the city. This is just them forcing a situation were they will lose trust, money, lives, and all that just to destroy a city that they get tax from and instill fear that they would just murder innocent cities, which will leave the thought in citizens minds, if we will just randomly be murdered if we do nothing, why not fight back, there is nothing to win in this fight and it ends with them being turn on by the masses and killed.
