Oof, that's even lazier since Japan does, to this day, have an active blacksmithing culture. Just last summer I was tripping around one of the bigger nearby shrines and there was a swordsmith forging some blades for a museum collaboration event.It's a problem that exists in multiple series where the author wants to write about something they really know nothing about and can't be bothered to do any real in-depth research for; Kajiya de Hajimeru Isekai Slow Life is an example of this, but with blacksmithing instead of firearms.
There are also smiths that make very expensive kitchen knives or nada, a kind of brush-clearing axe. I guess some authors must just really be under the gun to not even have the time to watch a YouTube video (I recommend the "Process" channel
