This is a meet the new character episode, you always have to Worf the main characters when you introduce a new fighter. Just like how the dark elf looked like a competent fighter when first introduced at the coliseum.I feel like this chapter does a good job of diminishing the three heroines for no particular reason. Sure they couldn't beat Maura originally, but these are Maura's clones who should be a lot weaker. They still got trashed so bad it made them look like they didn't know how to fight at all. It really makes it seem like Lena has no actual potential and it would be better for her to just leave everything to the random nobody who showed up since they can at least fight. Author could've dragged out the fight more to make it seem like the heroines are competent instead of losing immediately.
Thanks for the translations.
You shouldn't make your characters look like incompetent morons in order to build up another character. It degrades the quality of the story and diminishes the readers belief in the existing characters. The story would not meaningfully change if Lena actually put a real fight before losing instead of getting insta-killed.This is a meet the new character episode, you always have to Worf the main characters when you introduce a new fighter. She didn't even pull out the broken sword, Elf-chan didn't summon any phantom beasts, the Sage-chan didn't cast a single spell, and the Salaryman didn't even appear. Why are you so sure that things were even serious, at this point? You shouldn't make your characters look like incompetent morons in order to build up another character. The girls all beat strong foes in the last arc and worked together to beat the Big Bad. Now we have a lesser Big Bad that instakilled them even more easily than when it was stronger. How are you to believe they were competent enough to win those last fights when they get jobbed out in their very next fight? Wrestling shows countless examples of why you don't do this. In fact, if you hate a wrestler the best thing to do is give them a big win then immediately job them out in the next match as it kills all their momentum and hype.
How is this a defense? You are explicitly saying they got attacked and half the party did nothing. You didn't even mention that Dragon girl was basically incapacitated by having her ponytail pulled. It also doesn't even need to be serious. How you write your characters is how they will be perceived. They were written like unskilled losers this chapter so that's what they are.She didn't even pull out the broken sword, Elf-chan didn't summon any phantom beasts, the Sage-chan didn't cast a single spell, and the Salaryman didn't even appear.
