@Nep : Humans have their own disadvantage ;) But for the races most are somewhat common sense but not really common sense. The thing is for many races their nature varies from world to world (Tolkien elves are NOT physically weaker for instance, in D&D they have always been a bit frailer but just as strong, etc) so the help can be needed to tell exactly what downside applies in that world (half vamp's downside is not the worst out there but stronger then some series)

About Glossy skin :
it makes you more susceptible to sunburn skin cancer and other UV based illnesses, but it is a 5 point cheat so a minor downside is to be expected, unlike skill steal

The 2 I found most amusing were Hero's Essence
[Hero’s Essense (80 points)]

You possess the essence to become a hero with enough training and effort.

(You are easily dragged into troubling situations, which can be life-threatening)
and Supr attractive Appearance
[Super Attractive Appearance (30 points)]

You will be physically perfect.

Both genders will be attracted by your appearance.

(Good for those who swing that way.

Elves are already attractive, so choosing this will result in devasting effects. Not recommended)

@sjmcc13 In D&D being just as strong and a bit frailer is like saying 10 STR and 7 VIT (assuming 10 is base human stats). In "real life" the STR stat and VIT stat are pretty much shared (except for diseases)

Exaggerating both stats as an example, say, 100 STR and 1 VIT. In video games, it would allow a person to be strong enough to break walls with their bare fists but get killed by a flick to the forehead. So technically, it wouldn't work. Also Tolkien elves are a very specific and seemingly rare example since every elf I see in every other game have both less STR and VIT than humans. The thing is, most of the downsides can be expected. Only a few downsides seem to have unexpected downsides to me. While we are at D&D... "Ascribe agency to the polyhedron"

Glossy skin's downside is hard to expect but I guess its minor.

For Hero's essence... Enough gaming would tell you that heroes have the worst luck when it comes to enjoying peace. Standard common sense also dictates that becoming super strong would mean gaining the attention of strong and powerful people like Kings. These would result in people relying on you more, sending you on death missions because you are the only one who can do things, or kill you, because they are jealous. (Thus, easily dragged into troubling situations that can be life threatening.)

Super Attractive Appearance... "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" Wishing to be super attractive naturally means you are super attractive to everyone, beholder be damned. I can look at my neighbor of the same gender and honestly say the guy looks handsome. Am I attracted? Yes, not sexually, but yes. Certainly more approachable than the other guy that looks like Sectoids from X-com.

Now add SUPER and I might become homo myself. Elves being attractive is also the usual thing (long life, stay youthful, etc)

So yes, Super Attractive+Elf = Behold the bisexual sparkles.

i am kinda disappointed NGL. I genuinely wanted a manga were the protagonists power involves landmines and explosives.

i fucking love the premise of a character builder where you can make yourself super OP.
But the more OP you are the stronger downsides you get.
Its a ton of fun to make a customizable character with downsides and trying to find ways to subvert them.
Or just deal with them by doing other things.
It makes for interesting character designs.

Drug Eating Genius Mage or Terminally-Ill Genius Dark Knight are some nice examples of this in manga form.
( if anybody knows another example of this troupe plz let me know )

Lot of games with this type of system have options to add on downsides for extra points.
But its rare for them to be extremely crippling.
The closest one i know is Vampires : The masquerade , where you can pick a vampire race that always looks ugly.

So you are unable to do any social interactions with anyone who is not a vampire and you cant walk among humans and need to live in the sewers.
( if anyone knows of another game with this type of system that allows for huge downsides let me know )

If i had time to think and talk it over with people while doing this, i would have loved making a half vampire if i could get 1 or more to agree to being a blood-bag.
400 ml a day should be replaceable even for a single adult person.

You would have to have some backup plan in case the group breaks down thought...
Or possibility invest points in having a downside removed unless that ability also had large downsides?

But otherwise i would probably just go with a safe options like MC his friends, assuming i found out about the hidden downside.
Especially if i was alone. :qq:

He picked human, and yet his race changed?
@feha he didnt choose an elf, the manga skipped all the "character" creation. If you're interested in it I have good luck to tell you, there is a total of 5 ln chapters translated (oh wow that's a lot!).
Why does it feel like I have already read this? But MD showed it as unread, so I can't have...
