The original apple grove was hidden inside a recess of a cliff. Did they remove all the surrounding rock walls?! I suppose they could have relocated and replanted all the trees, but these trees looked quite mature so that would be a massive project on top of not accidentally killing them.
They only had a year so they didn't graft from young trees like you usually do. But you only produce the variation from the point of the graft onward. So did they make multiple grafts on the branches for all the trees?
If you compare the apple grove between Ch 10 pg 26, to Ch 11 pg 24, you can see the scale is vastly different. I would assume just based on the topography, they located a new area to use as a farm. In the Expedition flashback (Ch 10 pg 18), they're shown using Physical Labor, to remove all that dirt. So I'm going to assume there isn't much Earth Magic that can work on that scale.

There are easily more than 2x the number of fruit trees, and they specifically note that they grafted branches from their home region. And the phrase that throws out all logic, Farming Magic. With magic, logic no longer applies. I would assume, a mixture of Transplanting some of the trees from their cliff reserve, and mostly grafting onto existing trees (even though that doesn't really work with unrelated tree types in real life, but again. Farming Magic.)

I do like how the lord is not a fucking greedy asshole he actually views things bit more politically which is kinda necessary. Lets be real people just don't like people.
Especially slum dwellers. After all, it's still a problem until today, when people are unable/unwilling to find work and have a roof over their heads.

It's good to see that the slums in this manga are simply filled with people who are down on their luck, and not that they can't work. :win:

Is this a machi-koro reference? Machi-koro for those not familiar is japanese monopoly, but with cards instead of a board, and is a game about community investment: the community that invests the smartest gets richest the fastest.

I'm pretty sure those fruit trees was the orchard the kids found which then was turned into a farm

And since they have fruit trees now, those mages can finally use their magic on those
If they can grow a plant like a fruit tree, which takes years normally, they could easily have grown something that grows faster. This completely breaks the dumb plot of not enough food etc. There is basically zero reason for there to be any food issues in a magic world like this.

Yes and no? Magic on its own breaks a lot of things, but part of the issue here, is that none of them own any land. It's all owned by the government. The people with access to Farming Magic, could simply do so. And then have it all seized by the government/some other asshole, and have very little recourse. They're refugees here by the grace of the charity of others, actual property rights are a huge problem. The Lord is said to have commented about this directly in this chapter, that he can't have his own citizens claim that he's spending their money on refugees instead of them. What kind of shitstorm would the citizens summon if you gave someone else Land?

We're also not told the scale of this "farming magic", so we have no way to apply any limits. Are they magically cloning trees, are they able to just graft samples to any old tree, can they just do an instant graft, and have instant growth that ignores the complexities and chances of failure? Maybe it's all covered in a WN or LN, and it's slightly less egregious. This just doesn't go over any of it.

We're they trying to kept the farm a secret from all the kids? How did NONE of them know about something so large and involving so many people?
