Oh look, it's my favorite isekai children labor manga! Good stuff.

Anyway, anyone wanna bet that Miinya will leak MC's magic knowledge, catching the attention of some local magician or noble?
maybe a shop owner but i don't think a noble would need help in identifying edible plants unless he can somehow use his 'appraisal' skill to help an 'upper class' merchant determine what goods are fake /counterfeit and all that or so and give him a percentage of the profits lol

Or another 'poor slums' living person stealing some of the herbs that they harvest (like that one kid being a jerk to him earlier) if he's not willing to share with some of the adults at least

Thanks for the translation!
Hope we don't have to wait another 4 months between chapters, this one has such an interesting premise.

NEET implies not working, but he IS working to put food on the table. Another way to look at it, is that he is employing himself.
He's also studying and working out to get stronger, so even if people point out that he isn't technically employed, he crosses out the rest of the letters on that acronym.

All he has to do is pick up a few servings of food that he didn't need to plant, grow or protect, and he's all set for the day. It takes only slightly more effort than going to a convenience store for some cup ramen. These wild plants are like a poor man's Garden of Eden.

You forget that hunting and gathering was an actual job before we started farming. Just because it seems easy, doesn't mean it isn't work. He has to appraise all the grass that he sees just to find some that aren't poisonous. And find enough edible plants to feed 3 ppl (something that was suggested to take most of the day).

Think of it this way. if instead of eating it all, he sold it; could he not do this for a living? After all the most basic quests troupe for adventure guilds is herb collection.

Thanks for bringing it back!

lol not that hair dye exists (i assume), interesting how ppl seem to discriminate hair color, b/c other than an omen of bad luck like black cats, it's not as if there's some inherent aura
Interesting? That's just Japanese mangaka and their persecution fetish. They think nobody except them (Asian) have black hair so anytime they make their generic fantasy setting (often based on more european culture) they write it like that. Sure Black hair is less common in Europe but not an oddity.

But he didn't, so it was more of a chore than employment, and made even easier thanks to his cheat skill and past knowledge.
He probably will later on, because just mooching off some grasslands would make for a boring story. Or perhaps not? I mean, there are stories about these MCs who go to great lengths to avoid actually going to work.
He's also studying and working out to get stronger, so even if people point out that he isn't technically employed, he crosses out the rest of the letters on that acronym.
That's not what these letters mean. The 'education' and 'training' are specifically about academic education and vocational training - things that raise your qualifications on the job market. After all, employers largely don't care if you read or work out, they want diplomas and certifications that prove you're worth hiring.
Networking is also often a perk of pursing institutionalized education. In MC's case, being a complete nobody from a poor side of town and his 'cursed black hair' already limit employment opportunities. People would be wary if he started peddling his grasses out of the blue, but if he, for instance, found a master to take him as an apprentice, he'd have a chance to build his renown.
Overall, rather than complete idleness (nobody can do nothing all the time), neetdom is a civilizational phenomenon that involves comfortable survival on the fringe of society without subscribing to the daily grind of students and wagies. MC has a decent shot of making that work - putting food on the table without making any money.

People in Afrika still eat albino people to cure disease.

I foresee the little elf girl defending him from the jerk boys in town by stating how amazing he is because he can use magic to identify plants or when the mother gets upset when she finds out they are eating grass and kicks him out for trying to poison the little elf girl.
