I though his skill specifically stated that he himself can't use mana (and therefore, magic). What happened with that? Was it a mistranslation, or am I misunderstanding?

I think it was that he can see mana, but can't directly control it. So, maybe a misunderstanding? I'm guessing that if he had the mana control added to his skill, he would be like all those villainous characters that can just chant at other people's spells to take control of them.
