I grew up with horses, and the horses in this chapter are in the uncanny valley for me. They make me cringe. Especially the "smile".
Horses tend to show their emotions using their eyes and ears, of course their movements as well, but that isn't as easy to show in a manga, they do not have the muscles to smile like that. At most they will flip up their upper lip at you. Such a gesture is usually saying something is smelly.

"If you want to hate something, become an expert at it." I feel your pain. My mastery is art, and I can't even enjoy pornography because of the terrible paintings in the background.

Oh and the fact that mangadex decides to save all the pages you loaded even if that load was an error message, thus forcing me to just spam reload the page until it actually decides to reload the chapter

If the page is saved, then clearing the cache might help? The mobile app is just one big webview anyway, so browsing it on the PC (on Chrome?) should have identical issues. I think MD's image loader library likes to permanently give up when it fails to load an image. It remembers that it did until you clear the cache.

I don't believe that clearing the cache is less trouble that spending a minute or two reloading the page. It's just that this manga is honestly not worth it.
