the merchant is just dumb, not only did he destroy his own wagon and supplies costing him money but he also tried to commit mass murder against the village and left all his guards behind leaving him completely powerless against enemies. how did this guy manage to become such a big time merchant being this dumb?
Enrique as the villainous merchant did not destroy his own wagon. The wagon train consisted of two companies and a total of five wagons. One was the freight hauling group of three wagons run by Enrique of the Aurora merchant conglomerate. The other two were passenger wagons by a separate company. Enrique too one of the passenger wagons, so he seems to have convinced the head of the passenger wagon group and the driver of wagon #4 to go with him. The only member of the passenger company left behind was the driver of destroyed wagon #5.

Nobody mentions how lousy Rock's party is in keeping an eye on the area, since four villagers were abducted by the orcs and nobody noticed it yet?!? I mean, come on...
