That is fucking stupid way of doing things, well if anything discriminating against female pharmacists. You'd think they'd want more qualified people. This forces the women to chose between continuing their lineage or career. What if she was a godly pharmacist? Generally parents do pass on skills in their genes in one form or another.

Just wanna say that in China, abuse of maternity leave and welfare has gotten so bad to the point that women are actively discriminated against when hiring.

This also has the consequence of women who legitimately wanting to work, being unable to find jobs easily, and the jobs available don't include maternity leave as part of the hiring package.

(Also if they're selling out of the cosmetics by selling to commoners as well as aristocrats, I wouldn't be surprised if some savvy opportunists are going about buying them up in bulk to resell at a higher price when the shop has ran out. Same as people do with concert tickets in this world.)

Maybe justified in-universe if there was an expectation that "being a mother" is their fulltime job now... But from what it sounds like there isn't even any stipulation for what happens if the kid dies in this high mortality world.

It's not discrimination per-se. Despite China being a communist-socialist state it has almost 0 socialist state benefits.
I would not hire a woman if she planned to have children, if i must pay maternity leave from my pocket i would rather hire a guy.
Or let's say i must save a place for my employee due to maternity leave, during that time i hire someone else for 1-1.5 year.

That employee is good but i can't hire both. That said mother was out of work for 1 or 1.5 years so some skill degradation.

So summ it all up it's not discrimination it's pragmatic approach towards hiring. Business is a for profit organisation you cut anything that decreases profit. That's where the state comes and pays for maternity leave and even pays extra for keeping potential mother place.
What actually helped in 21st century is granting fathers the ability to get paternity leave thus making both genders a risky endeavour. (Basically equalizing the play field).

Relax it's a "feel good" manga. Where MC is the reader basically and can make stupid decisions which will be praised. Thus even the world must be stupid as hell to function in that setting. His decisions of being generous is sickening to someone who actually understands how economy works.
