Rat poison = Warfarin. I take 10mg a day and I'm no rat. It's a blood thinner used to keep my blood from clotting my artificial heart valve. I used to take it at 5 PM sharp everyday. To remind me, I had the alarm on my phone go off. I even recorded the personalized alarm: "Hey Swiggy! It's Time For Your Rat Poison." The guys at the club always got a laugh out of that.

Seeing this decisive action being taken to prevent the spread of an epidemic is...depressing.

It is quite funny how decisive and uncontested the actions are, considering nothing has happened yet and the outbreak that sparked all of this is supposedly over.

Also I know it's 5 years after it was written, but thinking that a lot of people dying has no long-term social, economic and political fallout is quite strange. Of course it had.
The end of serfdom in western Europen can be almost directly be attributed to the changed circumstances after the plague.
