Most likely, but I think it's also that he just didn't think too deeply about it. Or like, it just didn't register beyond "orphaned kids most likely abandoned by that slave trader whose cart got attacked by monsters". The twins were also really upset and crying, so I wouldn't be surprised if that helped to distract him from the "found IN GAYA FOREST" part of it
