Honestly I absolutely hate hate hate the "we met as kids and made a promise that we remember a decade+ later". Not only does it cheapen the real relationship, it's also plain weird to see kids act like teenagers in 6-year-old bodies (and, you know, childhood memories don't really work like that either). Old-school filler arcs are much better in comparison, if they are really trying to extend the releases, or maybe even better, gasp, actually put some work into writing an actually inventive, new, or interesting plotline!
